POWERHOUSE DEVOTIONALS: WHEN WORRY KEEPS YOU AWAKE

By: Juliana Bejoc

Something's been keeping me up all night these past few weeks. I want to think it's because our water district only supplies water late at night, or because the power interruptions have been affecting our sleep schedule—but deep inside, I know it's more than that.

For some reason, I've been worrying about the future.

With everything happening around us—gas prices rising, food becoming more expensive, bills that never stop coming—it's becoming harder to keep up, harder to pause even for a moment and breathe.

And I think some of you feel the same way too.

As much as you want to rest, there's this pressure in your heart, confused about which way to go or what to do next. You want to take control of the situation. You want answers immediately.

Honestly, I do too.

But as I read the Bible, God reminded me of who is truly in control.

And it's Him.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalm 32:8

This is God's assurance that He will never abandon us. He will never leave us alone to figure everything out by ourselves. Instead, He promises to instruct us, guide us, and show us the way we should go.

We may have worries today and fears about tomorrow, but those worries are nothing compared to who God is.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34

Matthew reminds us to slow down. Every day already has its own battles. Jesus was not forbidding us to plan or prepare for the future. Rather, He was warning us against paralyzing anxiety—the kind of fear and stress that overwhelms us and keeps us from moving forward

in faith.

We should never allow our worries to paralyze us. Instead, we should surrender them to God.

We all have fears about the future. We all have plans and dreams for our lives. We want the best for ourselves and for the people we love. But we should never allow fear to dictate our faith or control our lives. It should never stop us from doing the work of God.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9

Let this remind us that God's ways are always better than ours and that His plans are far greater than our own. We may spend so much time preparing for the future we want, yet in the end, God's will still prevails.

He knows what is best for us.

So why should we fear the future when we know the One who holds it? Why should we allow fear and stress to consume us when Jesus Himself reminds us that He loves and cares for us?

As we end, let Jeremiah 29:11 be our declaration:

For You know the plans You have for me, plans to prosper me and not to harm me, plans to give me hope and a future.

Amen.
