DEEP DIVE: A LECTURE TAKEAWAY ON "DARK ROOM"

By Joshua Samuel Valido

The darkness here was described as our anxieties caused by overthinking which is merely an effect of our wounds in the past. These wounds are caused by the pain from offensive words or actions, usually in the form of rejection and dislike, acted towards us. When mishandled, this suffering causes hatred that leads to suspicion, which develops into backbiting, slander, maligning, and then unforgiveness.

Unknowingly, this undermines our mindset, draining our passion for the activities we engage in and leading to a disconnection from our community. In the worst-case scenario, it turns our own consciousness against us, eroding our self-belief. When faced with challenges, we already perceive them as unwinnable. This, my friends, is not just a dimly lit room; it's a pitch-black, multi-level maze with only one way out. The longer you linger, the more daunting it becomes. If you find yourself in this predicament, you have just one mission: to escape.

Bishop Paul provided three key steps to help us escape this dark confinement: talk to people who love you, train your mind, and trust the Lord in everything. If you're seeking assistance in navigating a dark and unfamiliar place, consider reaching out to someone who embodies light—someone who has faced similar challenges and genuinely cares for you. These individuals have experienced the journey of escaping darkness through the illuminating power of God's Word. Engage with them; they can undoubtedly offer you valuable support.

As you embark on your journey of escape, darkness will still linger around you. This signifies that feelings of rejection and insignificance may still be present, manifesting either as memories from the past or new experiences brought about by various people. In these moments, you must train your mind to accept that not everyone will appreciate you. However, if you concentrate on your singular goal, much like the Canaanite woman, your faith will help you rise above the pain of rejection.

Ultimately, trust the Lord in everything. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the light in this place filled with darkness. Regardless of the circumstances in our surroundings, we have to follow the light because Jesus is our only way out.

Although we may find ourselves ensnared in the shadows of past traumas, it is important to remember that escape is possible. This darkness is of this world, yet take heart, Jesus has overcome the world.
