As humans, we tend to be goal-oriented, which is why we plan and set everything according to what we envision. Alongside this nature comes the tendency to set expectations. However, in reality, not everything in life will go as we planned. For this reason, we are often disappointed.
"Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." - Proverbs 19:21
"Lord, may Your will be done," is a familiar phrase heard from every Christian. While easily spoken, its profound meaning is often overlooked. There are times when we utter it, yet continue to act according to our own desires.

The true essence of these words manifests when there is submission.
The dictionary defines submission as "the action of accepting or yielding to a superior force or the will or authority of another person." In our Christian life, submitting to God's will means allowing Him to own and dictate the path of our lives. This does not mean we cannot pray for what we want. We can still do so, but our strongest desire is for God's will to be done more than anything else.
Admit it or not, it is easy to submit to God when His will aligns with our expectations. The real challenge arises when we must submit to God’s will, even when it differs from our own.
"Trust in the Him with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6
The Scriptures tells us to "trust," "lean on," and "submit" to God, even in times of difficulty. Because at the end of the day, we submit to God who is in control of everything and makes our paths straight.

The Christian life is a life of submission. We are to submit to the Lord in all things and we are also to submit to authorities, workplace supervisors, elders, and others as unto Christ. We do it because our life’s main purpose is to live for God, and submission is one of His clear commands to us.
