As a full-time mom, household chores are part of my everyday life — from preparing my kids for school to doing the laundry, cleaning the house, and cooking. Life has become very tiring indeed!
I remember one very exhausting day. I struggled to think what of to eat for dinner then ended up preparing a very bare type of meal, which I am not usually serving my kids. I expected them to complain and not eat totally. When my third child saw me serving them rice and scrambled eggs, I saw excitement in her eyes, and with a smile on her face looked at me and said, “Thank you, Mommy.”
In my amazement and surprise, I looked at her teary-eyed and said, "Welcome". I asked myself then, "How come she said thank you when what I only gave her were rice and egg for dinner?" Then, I was reminded of how I should react to every seemingly not-so-good situation that we encounter.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Paul tells the church to rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances. This passage is a simple reminder of how we as Christians should respond in every situation, especially when our faith is being shaken by challenges that sometimes give us an uneasy feeling and make us feel sad or defeated.
We might not have that feast type of lunch every day. However, may we always see how good our God is, who provides us not only with our physical but also with our spiritual needs. With God's love, grace, and provision that abounds, we should always practice having a grateful heart.
“Gives thanks to the Lord for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever.” - 1 Chronicles 16:34
Like my daughter, we can always respond in gratitude in all circumstances. As the Holy Book says in 1 Thess. 5:18, “This is God's will for us in Christ Jesus." May we always find God's faithfulness and provision in all aspects of our lives and be grateful in all circumstances.
