ASCENDING TO GREATER HEIGHTS: THE POWERHOUSE JOURNEY OF FCC TIMBAO

Updated: Feb 15, 2024

By Michelle Adlawan Breis

It was March of 2023 when we launched Powerhouse Ascent at FREE Christian Church in Timbao, Biñan, Laguna. We conducted our first fellowship with the EFC Powerhouse Core Leadership Team. I was in awe to see how the young professionals of FCC Timbao participated that day. Honestly, I did not expect the attendees to be more than 8, but we reached a total of 14. During that time, we were able to get to know each other and share the objective and purpose of the ministry, and it was indeed a fun-filled fellowship.

The name "Ascent" was inspired by the book of Psalms, specifically the "Song of Ascent," which narrates the journey of worship sung by worshipers as they ascended the road to Jerusalem. The word itself means going up or the act of uprising, a symbolism that aligns with the path that FCC Timbao is taking to enhance the church in general.

The launch of Powerhouse Ascent was an incredible beginning, but definitely challenging. This phase of my life brought a different kind of pressure, leading a ministry that felt quite new to me. I often felt there might be someone more equipped, prepared, and deserving than I am. Prior to the launch, months of prayer went into the decision. My husband and I decided to be more involved in helping structure FCC Timbao in general, supporting our Dad, who is the senior pastor of the church. This decision gave me the courage to start the young professional ministry in FCC Timbao.

Powerhouse Ascent has held several fellowships this year, referred to as "Ascending Weekend”. We believe every fellowship is an opportunity for us to ascend in our careers while enriching our relationship with God. It’s gratifying to witness the ministry's growth, with over 20 members regularly participating. During the “In Real Life Conference 2.0”, August of last year, we were recognized for having the most number of delegates per church, a source of great pride for us.

Reflecting on this fulfilling journey, I have come to realize that God loves using unlikely or unqualified people like me to lead a ministry because He knows our potential. With that realization, I trust in Him, believing that He is with me throughout this journey. He will continue to keep me grounded, bringing me closer to Him and to the people I lead. This journey is supported by my husband, also one of the leaders in PH Ascent, and guided by my mentor, Pastor Erland Palean.

As Powerhouse Ascent continues to grow and evolve, the ministry envisions a future filled with even greater impact. Our plans include expanding outreach to young professionals in Biñan, Laguna, and collaborating with other ministries and organizations. This is to ensure that Powerhouse Ascent remains a ministry of value and inspiration for young professionals.
