POWERHOUSE DEVOTIONALS: THE DOOR WAS NEVER LOCKED

By: Juliana Bejoc

I believe there are seasons in life when we think God is not listening. We feel like He has abandoned us, or that our prayers go unanswered. It’s as if the door to His kingdom is closed, and we’re not allowed to knock. We don’t see Him move; we don’t hear His voice. It feels like He’s not there at all and we wonder—what’s happening?

“Therefore, tell the people: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Return to me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Zechariah 1:3

If there’s one thing I’ve learned growing up as a Christian, it is this: God is always listening. But are we listening to Him? We ask for His presence, yet we give Him mere minutes instead of devotions. We long to hear His voice, but we fill our minds with everything else. We pray for breakthroughs, but we forget the simple things that draw us closer to Him. We are so busy with life that we forget He is the reason for our being.

Zechariah 1:3 reminds us that the door was never locked. God does not drift away from people. We are the ones who slowly step back, often without realizing it.

Sometimes, spiritual distance is not God moving away—it is self-inflicted, out of neglect. It is our doing. But God is good. All we have to do is return.

Return to intentional prayer.

Return to consistent devotion.

Return to the Word that once sparked our soul.

Return to quiet moments where our soul can rest and breathe.

Return to the God who never walked away.

God invites us to return intentionally. Each step we take toward Him, He meets with mercy, and love. He is ready to meet us—not with condemnation, but with grace.

Short Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that You are always near, even when I feel distant. Help me to return to You with a sincere heart—through prayer, Your Word, and quiet moments of reflection. Draw me closer, Lord, and meet me with Your grace. Strengthen me to seek You intentionally, and remind me that Your presence never leaves me.

Amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. When have you felt distant from God, and how did you respond in that season?

  2. Are there areas in your life where you might have stepped back from God unintentionally?

  3. What small, intentional steps could you take to “return” to God in your daily life?

Share your story below! It might encourage someone who needs it today  — and how can we pray for you this week?
