POWERHOUSE DEVOTIONALS: NOT IN SEASON, BUT IN HIS TIME

One morning, a young person’s grandmother asked if they could bring her an atis, her favorite fruit. Atis, also known as sugar apple, is a sweet tropical fruit with soft, creamy flesh and bumpy green skin. However, it was not the season for atis, so finding one seemed unlikely.
Later that afternoon, while the young person was out to buy a snack, they passed by a store with an Atis Tree. A ripe fruit had just fallen, and when they asked the vendor if they could buy it for their grandmother, the vendor kindly gave it to them for free. The young person went home with the atis, and their grandmother was overjoyed.
This unexpected, simple moment became a reminder that sometimes, God answers prayers in ways we do not expect. When God says “yes,” joy often overflows. But when the answer is “no” or “wait,” it is easy to feel disappointed, confused, or even frustrated. Emotions can rise and fall depending on how things turn out, but that is why it is important to surrender even our emotions to God.
As Christians, we are called to trust God with our needs and feelings. God is strong in our weakness and understands every emotion. Even when we do not understand our circumstances, we can let God take care of what is happening in our hearts. True faith means trusting Him completely—not just with outcomes, but with our emotions, too. We can let Him carry our emotions and trust that His plan is good.
Whether the answer is “yes,” “no,” or “not yet,” and no matter how we feel—happy, hurt, or waiting—let us give our hearts fully to God. He can handle our emotions better than we ever could, even the parts we do not know how to express. And when we choose to surrender everything to Him—including our emotions—He promises us peace.
It is not peace that comes from everything going our way, but peace that goes beyond human understanding. It guards our hearts when they are overwhelmed and protects our minds when doubts and questions try to take over.
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:7
In every season—even those that feel out of season—God is still working. And when we let go and trust Him, His peace will meet us right where we are.
