POWERHOUSE DEVOTIONALS: WHERE WORRY ENDS AND TRUST BEGINS

By Sariah Villanueva

So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” - Genesis 22:14

Worrying is something we all struggle with, especially when we feel helpless in facing life's challenges. I remember the time when my eldest son, Seth, had to undergo surgery due to intussusception, a serious condition where part of the intestine slides into an adjacent section, causing blockage. It was a frightening time, and it tested my faith not just as a mother but as a Christian like never before. I sat in the hospital with my mother-in-law, anxiously waiting for the surgery to be over. The financial burden was heavy, but the emotional weight was even greater as I watched my child being wheeled into the operating room. When the surgeon came back and told us they were struggling to insert an IV because Seth’s veins were swelling, I knew, even though the tears wouldn’t fall, I was crying deep inside. At that moment, there was nothing more I could do but pray and surrender everything to God, even the life of my son.

Then I remembered the story of Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 22). Abraham had waited for years to have a child, and Isaac was the fulfillment of God’s promise to him. But God tested Abraham’s faith by asking him to sacrifice his beloved son. It must have been heartbreaking for Abraham, just as it was for me to see Seth going into surgery. Yet, despite his pain, Abraham trusted God completely. He believed that God had a plan, even if he could not understand it at that moment. As Abraham and Isaac climbed Mount Moriah, Isaac innocently asked where the lamb for the offering was. With faith, Abraham replied, “God will provide.” And indeed, at the last moment, when Abraham was about to offer his son, God intervened. He provided a ram for the sacrifice, showing that He never intended to take Isaac away, but God wanted Abraham to trust Him.

That story reminded me that I had to put my complete trust in God. I had no control over the situation, but I knew that God had. He was asking me to surrender, to rely on Him rather than on my strength. And just as He provided for Abraham, He provided for us. Seth’s surgery was successful, and God used people around us to meet our financial needs. It was then that I truly understood that worrying does not change anything, but trusting God can make a difference. We often find ourselves on our own Mount Moriah moments when we feel tested, overwhelmed, and uncertain. Yet it is in those very places that God reveals Himself as faithful. He may not always provide in the way we expect, but He always gives us exactly what we need. God reminds us that He is in control of everything. We may not see the full picture, but He is always working behind the scenes.

So, when worry threatens to consume us, may we remember Abraham's faith and the truth of Genesis 22:14. God's provision is not just about what we receive; it's about who He is. He is Jehovah Jireh our Provider and trusting Him brings a peace that no circumstance can take away. Surrender your fears, rest in His promises, and trust that on your mountain, He will provide.
